Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion

The Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion (OAHPP) is an arm's-length government agency dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of all Ontarians and reducing inequities in health. As a hub organization, OAHPP links public health practitioners, front-line health workers and researchers to the best scientific intelligence and knowledge from around the world.

 

OAHPP provides expert scientific and technical support relating to infection prevention and control; surveillance and epidemiology; health promotion, chronic disease and injury prevention; environmental and occupational health; health emergency preparedness; and public health laboratory services to support health providers, the public health system and partner ministries in making informed decisions and taking informed action to improve the health and security of Ontarians.  For more information about OAHPP, visit www.oahpp.ca.

Public Health Ontario

PublicHealthOntario.ca is a new source for  public health information and resources. It contains links to important health notices, breaking news and the latest developments in public health and e-health, including many items that once resided with the Public Health Branch. The PHB site will continue to host certain limited access materials (Boil Water status reports and secure online reporting services).


 

Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
Ministry home page with up-to-date information and announcements about Ontario's health system. As there is currently a prominent focus on public health, there is plenty of useful information, including direct links to the various commissioned reports (e.g. Walker and Campbell), information on West Nile virus and influenza. 

 

Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion
The Ministry of Health Promotion was created on June 29, 2005 when Premier McGuinty asked the Honourable Jim Watson to become Ontario's first Minister of Health Promotion.

The Ministry will help Ontarians lead healthier lives by delivering programs that promote healthy choices and healthy lifestyles. To do this the Ministry will work closely with partners, stakeholders and all levels of government.

Public Health Research and Education and Development (PHRED) Program
This program exists to provide evidence to support effective and efficient public health practice and improve accountability in public health practice, increase capacity within the public health system by providing leadership in the education of future public health professionals and  provide leadership in research and education through strategic partnerships. The PHRED health units are Hamilton, Middlesex - London, Sudbury, Kingston and Ottawa.

Public Health Agency of Canada
This is the home page of Canada's new Public Health Agency (PHAC). A part of the public service, PHAC coordinates federal efforts in identifying and reducing public health risks and threats and supports national readiness to respond to health crises. 

 

 The Canadian Institute for Health Information - Canadian Population Health Initiative

The Canadian Population Health Initiative (CPHI), as a part of Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), was launched in 1999 to expand the public's knowledge of population health.

The Canadian Public Health Association
The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) is a national, independent, not-for-profit, voluntary association representing public health in Canada with links to the international public health community. CPHA's members believe in universal and equitable access to the basic conditions which are necessary to achieve health for all Canadians.

 

The Ontario Safety Association for Community & Healthcare (OSACH) is a non-profit corporation established under the Ontario Business Corporations Act and is a "designated entity" under the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, subject to provisions of this statute in terms of governance, funding, functions, operations and objectives.

OSACH's services are based on the principles identified in the Ontario Ministry of Labour's paper, Preventing Illness and Injury -- A Better Health & Safety System for Ontario Workplaces (January 1998). OCACH was formerly known as the Health Care Health and Safety Association of Ontario and specializes in health and safety issues for health care-related workplaces.
